Climbing

TFC climbing is fairly simple but may be quite hard to new TFC gamers (even thought thats about as likely as a pig flying but whatever). First I am going to explain the basic climbing techniques and then the more advanced climbing techniques.

Basic Techniques:

Run + Jump - The very simplest form of climbing. If you can not do this then you are in trouble. Simply aim at your desired platform, run and jump at the edge (slightly before if possible) of the platform you are currently on. Ducking usually has more of a success rate as you will not clip the bottom of the wall  and also has the advantage of slowing you down once you land (TFC is NOT like CS/CSS where you jump and slow down after landing).

 

Run + Jump + Duck - The second simplest technique to do. Run at the platform and hit jump, then almost immediately after it hit duck. It does not necessarily have to be immediately after however it has more advantages than disadavatanges. The advantages of immediate duck is the player is much less likely to hit any platforms that are above him/her or above the platform they are landing on.

 

Advanced Techniques:

Around a corner jump - This jump requires the player to make an r shape bend around the corner of a wall. This can be done by the player running and jumping, holding a strafe key (if it is a left turn then strafe left, right turn = strafe right) and aiming the mouse toward the platform once passed the wall. Video.

 

Around a wall jump - This jump requires the player to make a u/c shape bend around a wall to get to the platform. To do this, the player must jump out towards the fall, hold </> depending on the jump (x|x, if you was on the bold x you would hold < whilst jumping around the wall) and turn the mouse toward the platform they are trying to land on. Don't forget to duck! Video.

 

Bunny hop - Note: Further detail on strafing page. Bunny hopping can be done by strafe jumping and gaining momentum. See the strafing page for more info.

 

Duck + Jump with a wall above - Get right to the edge of the wall and do a small strafe jump. If there is a wall accessable then use the wall strafe and jump (see strafing page).

 

Strafe Jump - Note: Further detail on strafing page. Strafe jumping can be done by holding a strafe key and correctly timing the jump. See the strafing page for more info.

 

Strafe Jump around a corner - This jump requires more timing than the simple 'around a corner jump'. It is longer so really the key essentials to this jump is the start (see strafing page, strafe jump) and the timing of the jump. Then just follow the same pattern as 'around a corner jump'.
